Charles Dickens: Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist was published in 1838 and written by a man named Charles Dickens. This work was probably one of his most loved. It has been made into a broadway musical and evan a movie (enotes). This author and book are examples of realism works. They represented the world as it was. The book very much focused on the "harsh side of life in cities or villages" (Ellis and Esler). Critics say,"the interest of the book lies not so much in its revelation of Dickens's literary genius as in its revelation of those moral, personal, and political instincts which were the make-up of his character and the permanent support of that literary genius" (Chesterton).
