Claude Monet: "La Grenouillere"

"La Grenouillere" was painted in 1869 by Claude Monet. "La Grenouillere" is an example of an impressionist painting, and Monet an impressionist painter (Scott). The painting was called this because Monet brushed strokes of color side by side without and blending. At the time scientific studies showed that our eyes would mix the colors (Ellis and Esler). The reflections of blue and red on the water and the cheery people, capture a feeling of merriment (Scott). Critics say it "made rapid notations of pleasure-seekers and bathers, rowboats bobbing in the foreground, and the scintillating reflections in the lapping water" (a world history of art).
